The Heads of the Valleys
Hotshots Under 10’s and Under 12’s continued their seasons at the Rhondda Fawr
Leisure Centre on 19th January 2002.
HOV Hotshots Under 10’s 0
The Hotshots youngsters
found it hard to come to terms with the speed and experience of the Risca
outfit, as the score line suggests. They all ended the match tired, but eager
to play their next game, against Caerphilly.
HOV Hotshots Under 10’s 4
Caerphilly 6
This was a much closer
game, with the Valleys side taking the lead through Jordan Meale, off a Jamie
Lewis assist.
Greg Apperley in the
Hotshots goal made some great saves, and the defence of Samantha Rodgers, Jamie
Robinson, Mike Grovell and Liam Rickwood held strong in the initial skirmishes.
James Morgan came close
to scoring, and some neat passing between Morgan and Lewis resulted in Lewis
netting the Hotshots 2nd, and then going on the hit the 3rd.
Tired and inexperienced
legs opened the way for Caerphilly to fight back, with 2 goals prior to the
interval, and then from 3-2 in front, the Blaenau Gwent outfit went into a 5-3
deficit after the break.
Lewis hit his hat trick,
but the Caerphilly side were able to net again to seal the victory.
HOV Hotshots Under 12’s 10
Risca Romans 3
The Under 12’s were out
to avenge the defeat by the Romans of the Under 10’s, and did so in style, with
the strike partnership of Sarah Rodgers and Alex Trotman the power behind the
victory.
Rodgers netted the first
goal after some great passing, and Mathew Day scored the 2nd after
some skilful play from Luciano Casa saw the ball fall at the stick of Day.
Rodgers hit the 3rd,
and then a defensive error saw Owen Price in the Hotshots goal beaten for the
only time in the first half.
The Blaenau Gwent players
stepped up a gear, with Rodgers setting up Trotman for the 4th, and
Trotman hitting the 5th in typical individual style.
Liz Baker replaced Price
in goal at the start of the 2nd period, and more defensive
indecision saw the Romans net a 2nd.
Trotman hit back with his
hat trick goal, with Rachel Grovell netting number 7.
David Robinson and
Stewart Rickwood both came close for the Valleys team, but it was Trotman who
hit number 9, and then hit a ball that beat the keeper but came back off the
crossbar and into the path of Rhys Lewis who duly scored.
Trotman completed the
scoring late in the half.
