The Heads of the Valleys Hotshots Skater Hockey Club had 2
teams playing over the weekend, with the Under 12’s taking on Abergavenny and
Bridgend, and the Seniors facing Bridgend and Meltdown.

Abergavenny Gators

This game was a fine example of team play, with every player
contributing to the thrashing dished out to the local rivals, with both
netminders, Liz Baker and Owen Price having an outstanding half each.
As is typical of this team however, they were very
complacent in the early skirmishes, with the result that the Abergavenny outfit
hit the first goal.
This kick-started the Valleys team, and the goals soon
flowed, with Matthew Day, Assistant Captain on the day netting the first goal
from an Alex Trotman assist.
Trotman then made it 2-1 with a fantastic free shot hit from
inside the Hotshots own half, and then some outstanding play resulted in the
hard working Luciano Casa making it 3-1.
Trotman, last seasons record top points scorer with 105,
then made it 4 to the Hotshots with a typical individual strike.
The first half scoring was rounded off by Rachel Grovell, a
Welsh International defender, with a stunning shot.
Trotman struck his hat trick at the start of the 2nd
period, and then made it 7-1 with his 4th goal of the day.
Not contented with just scoring goals, Trotman then went on
to set up Day for his 2nd and defender David Robinson for the
Blaenau Gwent sides 9th, and Robinson’s first of the season; this
now means that every outfield player in this team has now scored!
Day struck his own hat trick late into the game off a Rhys
Lewis assist, and then with just 0.09 seconds remaining on the clock, Trotman
hit the 11th goal and his 5th to cap a great team
performance.

Bridgend Dynamos 3
Another great team effort saw the Hotshots complete another
great victory against the Dynamos.
Again it was the opposition that got the scoring underway,
and again it was Matthew Day that hit the equaliser, after Casa had a shot
rebound back off the net minder which Day was able to tap home.
Stewart Rickwood, another Welsh International defender, then
went on to set up Trotman for goal number 2, with Trotman and Sarah Rodgers
then combining in a great passing movement that resulted in David Robinson
hitting his second goal of the day.
Trotman netted number 4 for himself, with the Dynamos
hitting a late first half goal to take the teams into the break with the
Hotshots 4-2 to the good.
The 2nd half was all about Sarah Rodgers, whose
unselfish play saw her assist in 3 of the 4 goals scored by her team mates,
starting with a great pass that was duly despatched by Grovell.
Bridgend struck their 3rd and final goal, and
then Rhys Lewis netted the Hotshots 6th.
The final 2 goals fell to Trotman after Rodgers had again
done all the hard work.
HOV Hotshots Seniors 2
Bridgend Dynamos 10
Matthew Rogers in goal had a tremendous game, making a
series of crucial saves that kept the very skilful Dynamos to a 6-1 first half
score line.
Gareth Emms scored the Blaenau Gwent sides only first half
goal, and doubled their tally in the 2nd,

Meltdown 7
This was an outstanding performance against a very tough and
fast side that were league champions in recent years.
Again, net minder Rogers made some excellent saves to keep
the scores low, and his hard work saw the half time scores tied at 2-2, with
Jonathan Haile hitting the Hotshots 1st with a fantastic slap shot
from the halfway line, and the prolific Emms netting the 2nd.
Phil Rodgers and Darren Grande worked hard for the team, and
Gary Jones scored the Hotshots 3rd goal late into the game.
