The Heads of the Valleys skater Hockey Club were represented
by their Under 12’s and Under 18’s on Saturday and Sunday 24th/25th
November, and both teams out on a show for the respective audiences.
HOV Hotshots Under 12’s 13
Abergavenny Gators 3
The Hotshots youngsters always put on a good show against
their near neighbours, and this game was no different.
Liz Baker started in the Hotshots goal, and from the back
saw last years top strike partnership of Alex Trotman and Sarah Rodgers lead by
example with 2 early goals; Trotman netting the first and Rodgers the 2nd.
The Gators pulled a goal back, but Rhys Lewis showed that
the Hotshots aren’t just a 2 player team with 2 great goals.
Again the Gators hit a goal, but this time Luciano Casa made
it 5-2. Trotman netted the 6th, with Rodgers hitting the 7th
after the Abergavenny outfit had hit a 3rd.
Owen Price replaced Baker in Goal at the start of the 2nd
period, and Trotman netted goal 8 off a Rodgers assist.
Jamie Lewis, playing up from the Under 10’s, made it 9, with
the hard working Matthew Day getting the 10th after a goal mouth
scramble.
Trotman hit the 11th, with Rodgers claiming the
12th off a Rachel Grovell assist.
The lucky 13th then fell to Grovell, after
Trotman had made the pass.
HOV Hotshots Under12’s 15
Bridgend Dynamos 1
Price had a great game against the Gators, but was asleep at
the start of this match, as the Bridgend outfit took a shock lead with only 28
seconds of the game gone!
Casa made amends almost immediately, however, as from the
face off he was able to equalise for the Blaenau Gwent side.
Defender David Robinson broke forward and was able to set up
Rhys Lewis for the 2nd.
Goal 3 was a Rodgers effort fro a Trotman assist, with
Trotman getting the 4th in typical individual style.
Trotman went on to set up the 5th for Jamie Lewis
before claiming the 6th for himself.
Rodgers rounded off the first half scoring with a brace for
herself that saw the Valleys oufit go into the interval with an 8-1 lead.
Baker stepped into the goal at the start of the 2nd
half, and saw Jamie Lewis net the 9th goal.
Rachel Grovell made it 10, with Rhys Lewis getting the 11th
off a Trotman assist.
Rodgers hit the 12th, Trotman the 13th,
and then Rodgers made it another late brace to seal an emphatic victory.
HOV Hotshots Under 18’s 11
Bridgend Dynamo 1
Anything the Under 12’s can do… so can the under 18’s!
This was another exhibition display by the Blaenau Gwent
outfit.
Captain Phil Rodgers made it 1-0, with Michael Haile netting
the 2nd.
Jason Rickwood made it 3, only to see the Bridgend outfit
net their only goal of the game.
Rodgers hit the 4th off a Haile assist, with
Rickwood ending the half with a great individual effort.
Nick Rogers got the 2nd half off to a great start
by netting twice in quick succession, with Greg Symonds getting the 8th.
Haile set up Rogers for the 9th, with Rickwood
setting up Emms for the 10th.
Rodgers ended the scoring for this game with another
individual effort.
HOV Hotshots Under 18’s 2
Caerphilly 2
Caerphilly are not just one of the best teams in Wales, but
compete on an equal footing with the best in Britain, so any kind of result
against them can be considered good, and this was good!
Caerphilly scored the only goal of the first half, although
the Hotshots had shot after shot, with the Caerphilly keeper keeping them in
the game.
At the start of the 2nd period, the Hotshots
stepped up a gear, and scored an equaliser through the prolific Gareth Emms,
this years assistant captain.
As the game cake to a close, a great slap shot from Michael Haile gave the Hotshots a shock lead, and only a late, disputed goal from Caerphilly earned them a point.
