The Heads of the Valleys Hotshots had 2 teams competing at the Rhondda over the weekend, with the Under 16’s facing Abergavenny and Caerphilly, and the Seniors up against Bridgend.

HOV Hotshots Under 16’s           12

Abergavenny Gators                       2

By the interval of this match, the Hotshots had destroyed Abergavenny, with ex Gator Jason O’Neill in the Valleys goal hardly troubled at all.

Nick Rogers hit 2 early goals, with Captain Mike Haile making it 3-0.

Shortly after this the Hotshots found themselves 4-0 to the good, when Assistant Captain Jason Rickwood struck. Rogers hit his hat trick strike almost immediately, when the ball fell to him off the face off for him to slap shot home; he hit goal number 6 before Gareth Liddington rounded off the first half scoring, with the Blaenau Gwent outfit going into the break with an unassailable 7-0 lead.

The second period saw Haile hit number 8, but then the Abergavenny side hit a goal for them selves.

Rob Baker had a goal disallowed before Greg Symonds made it 9-1.

Again some slack defending allowed the Gators through, but a late flurry of goals ensured a resounding victory for the Hotshots, with Haile netting off a Rogers assist, and then Symonds hitting number 11 and Hotshots hotshot Rogers making it 12-2.

HOV Hotshots Under 16’s           5

Caerphilly                             5

The Hotshots almost had this game in the bag, but again some slack defending in the 2nd period saw them let the opposition in for the draw.

Caerphilly hit the first goal, but Rogers was able to net the equaliser soon afterwards.

Caerphilly hit the second, with Baker this time pulling the scores level.

Symonds then gave the Hotshots the lead, with Liddington getting the final goal of the half off a Haile assist.

Haile gave the Blaenau Gwent side a further boost at the start of the 2nd period but with the scores at 5-2, the Hotshots fell apart, allowing Caerphilly through with 3 unanswered goals.

HOV Hotshots Seniors     5

Bridgend                              7

Bridgend hit 3 goals before the Hotshots netted, with Gary Jones hitting the back of the net.

Bridgend extended their lead, but then a great run from Jason Rickwood resulted in him netting the Hotshots second.

The final goal of the half also fell to Rickwood, off a Philip Rodgers assist.

Rickwood struck his third in the second period, with Gareth Emms netting the final Hotshots goal, but the Bridgend side were always too strong.
